Ramos Pinto
Where to start with this outstanding selection of table wines and fortified wines?
Unique and exceptional, from a most beautiful part of the world, the Ramos Pinto label should be on every wine lovers shopping list.
Having been bought by Louis Roederer Champagne in 1990, the resulting significant investment turned a sleeping giant into a raging bull of a winery!
Descendants of the original founder, Adriano Ramos Pinto, are still involved in the business including Ana Rosas, the Master Blender and Head of Port Wine Production. Ana joined Ramos Pinto in 1990 and became Master Blender of the House of Ramos Pinto in 2015, a role she took over from her cousin, João Nicolau de Almeida.
Everything – and we mean EVERYTHING – is done in the pursuit of improvement and no stone left unturned in order to eke out every last ounce of quality in every part of the wine making process.
The results are just stunning.
Ramos Pinto are famous for their Tawny Ports including the incredibly moreish 10 Year Old Tawny, Quinta da Ervamoira, which is available here at Stainton Wines.
We also stock the memorable 20 Year Old Tawny Porto Quinta do Bom Retiro and the undeniable, ethereal and very rare 30 Year Old Tawny Porto – a desert island wine if ever there was one!
Ramos Pinto have four different farms or ‘Quintas’ in the north of Portugal.
Bom Retiro and Urtiga are traditional farms where ancient terraces were hewn out of the incredibly steep hillsides by hand (a little like a series of steps) to allow the vines to be planted and tended to.
Then there is the beautiful and remote Ervamoira Quinta where the vines surround the farm buildings in a unique and impressive natural amphitheatre.
Finally the ultra modern Quinta Bons Ares which concentrates on supplying grapes for the excellent table wines that Ramos Pinto produce.
As well as these superb Tawny Ports, Stainton Wines also import the following wines from Ramos Pinto:
Collector, Reserve Ruby Port
Adriano, Reserve White Port
Late Bottled Vintage Port
Quinta da Ervamoira Vintage Port – currently 2017
Ramos Pinto Vintage Port – currently 2007
