Bodega Lagarde
Wines from Argentina’s Bodega Lagarde are exclusively imported to the UK by Stainton Wines.
Today the winery and estate are run by third generation Pescarmonas, sisters Sofia and Lucila. Lagarde possesses exceptional vineyards and make wines that reflect a strong sustainable commitment to the land and its people.
They are members of the B Corporation, as a triple impact company from B Lab, a global organization that brings together more than 2,500 companies in 50 countries and 130 sectors with a single purpose: that all companies compete to be the best for the world.
There is no particular ideology but it is based around the idea that decisions are made that respect the people, community and environment.
They have also implemented several other measures to be less impactful, such as, lighter bottles, stringent water use and composting of all organic waste, for re-use in the wineries flower garden.
They have five different vineyard sites, totaling approximately 230 hectares, located in Luján de Cuyo (Agrelo, Mayor Drummond and Perdriel), Tupungato (Gualtallary) and Tunuyán (Vista Flores).
Some of their wines are from the oldest vineyards in Argentina and they own and manage two vineyards which are more than 100 year’s old.
Stainton Wines import 12 wines from Bodega Lagarde, ranging from the excellent value Altas Cumbres range, a white Torrontes and two reds, a cabernet Sauvignon and a Malbec.
They are all made from estate grown fruit which gives them that extra bit of character that sets them apart from other Argentinian wines of a similar price.
New to the range are two wonderful red blends under the Teia label. A Malbec blended with a little Petit Verdot and a Cabernet Sauvignon blended with small amount of Cabernet Franc.
The flagship Lagarde label is represented by a superb Malbec and the next step up, “Guarda”, which are exceptional wines, a Malbec heavy blend and an impressive Cabernet Franc.
Making up the collection are some of the finest wines from South America. All predominantly utilising the Malbec grape and showcasing the incredible quality of the very best vineyards of Bodegas Lagarde.
“Proyecto Hermanas”, made to the taste of Lucila Pescarmona, has a generous and captivating nature!
Then we have “Primeras Vinas”, as the name suggests, from the very best plots. Pure Malbec from 5,000 feet up in the foothills of the Andes and made in tiny amounts.
Finally we have “Henry #1” made only in the best vintages from the best grapes. It is not a fixed blend, rather, each wine is made to express the best of the best wine the estate is capable of making.
