Sauvignon Gris, Cool Coast
Chile
£16.25
Sauvignon Gris is the rather more reticent cousin of its more famous Sauvignon Blanc sibling. By that we really mean it is a hell of a lot harder to cultivate and coax into becoming a tasty glass of wine…
However, in the right hands – in this case the premier team at Casa Silva – and the right conditions such as a cool climate with a long, temperate and dry autumn to allow for optimum ripeness, you can produce a most magnificent, and some would say much tastier, glass of wine than the ubiquitous, better known member of the family.
Green apple, fresh asparagus and pink grapefruit all vie for your attention and a finish of well defined citrussy frehness complete an highly enjoyable mouthful of wine.
