Our longest association is with Famille Hugel. Based in the impossibly picturesque village of Riquewihr in Alsace, they are now in the safe hands of the thirteenth and fourteenth generations of the family and are one of the oldest wine producers in Europe!
We first made contact with them in 1964, a mere six decades ago, when Frank Stainton did a summer placement there as a young and impressionable man fresh in the wine trade.
Riesling grows extremely well in this sheltered eastern outpost of France on the German border. A fleshier, fruitier example than its German counterparts, and brilliant with pan-Asian food in particular.
